When considering a pool as part of your outdoor expansion, careful consideration needs to be given to the placement thereof and its relationship the home and the rest of the landscape surrounding it.
The pool deserves a prominent position on the property, not necessarily where it will dominate the overall view from the home. In the Northeast, where the pool is not used year-round, it is often preferable to place it off towards the side of the property and as such, does not feature as a central focal point of the landscape.
Shape plays an important role as well. When selecting a free form pool, typically allow for more space as this requires more area to look natural than does a recto- linear shape. The transition from the pool to the rest of the landscape is important. Transitioning from the edge of the pool to a patio surface on which furniture can be placed, alleviates debris from getting into the pool and then leading to the grassy surround by way of stepping stones between grass joints, softens this transition, gracefully and gradually.
