This expansive backyard transformation in Hanson, MA seamlessly blends the charm of traditional New England architecture with the ease and elegance of modern outdoor living. Ivy Studio designed every last detail to create a cohesive retreat that feels both grounded and refined.

A key highlight of the project is a 27' x 18' timber-frame pergola, custom-built onsite from Douglas fir with oak-peg joinery & pine shiplap. Designed in tandem with the new storage shed, this pavilion serves as the project’s heart—featuring a relaxed lounge area with a gas firepit and a fully equipped bar complete with refrigeration, sink, and storage.

The free-form pool flows naturally through the space, its soft curves enhancing the surrounding deck and lush planting beds. Thoughtfully placed path lights and uplighting on specimen trees cast a warm, ambient glow across the landscape, extending the usability and beauty of the space into the evening hours.

Goshen stone slabs, chosen for their organic texture and durability, define the walkway leading to the backyard and were also used as custom-cut spa coping—each edge hand-finished by skilled masons. This project reflects Ivy Studio’s execution of high craftsmanship and the art of marrying rustic elegance with modern function.
